About Us

Windamere Arabians is located in the mountains of extreme Northern California where Ed and Sharon Litizzette have been breeding straight Egyptian Arabians since 1988.

The cornerstones of their breeding program are a small group of top quality, carefully selected mares of stellar pedigree. The mares are daughters of Ibn Safinaz, Imperial Imdal, Makhsous and Shahin El Masr. The strains represented are Abayyan Um Jurays and Dahman. The chosen tail female lines are Elwya, Hanan, Moniet El Nefous and Pharrah. From one to four foals are produced annually.

Type is the touchstone of Windamere breeding. Ed and Sharon choose from internationally known straight Egyptian sires or use their own extremely exotic El Hadiyyah son. The selections are based upon the potential best cross for each mare. In addition to type, conformational correctness and free movement are a must as is a “live in your tent” disposition.

The Litizzettes pride themselves on client service. Their motto in doing business is “what works for you, works for us”.

Ed grew up in Nebraska but came to Yreka California to work for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, after a tour of duty in the U. S. Air Force. Ed and Sharon met and married in 1967. They have lived in Siskiyou and Santa Cruz counties during Ed’s career with CDF.

Ed retired from CDF in 1995. He and Sharon founded the Hammond Ranch Fire Company in 1988 and Ed served as chief of the department until January 2006. Sharon also retired at that time as a battalion chief of the department. Ed still serves as a Communication Unit Leader on a National Incident Management Team. and has been requested to do Resource Management for FEMA. Sharon now devotes full time to the horses and client support.

Besides their horses, Ed and Sharon are dedicated to the health and safety of their community. Ed is a member and past president of Weed Rotary. Sharon is an avid gardener.
